Gustave Doré – The Empyrean (Rosa Celeste) | The Love Which Moves the Sun Poster
A radiant gathering of angels surrounds a dazzling centre of light, while Dante and Beatrice stand beneath it. Gustave Doré’s The Empyrean, also known as Rosa Celeste, brings the celestial world of Dante’s Paradiso into intricate, sweeping detail.
This Between Forms edition pairs the engraving with the closing words of Paradiso, translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
“The Love which moves the sun and the other stars.”
Warm cream margins and restrained serif typography give the image space to breathe, preserving its full composition while drawing out the connection between light, love and wonder.
